Looking for an AI you can ERP with, in the erotic-roleplay sense rather than the enterprise software? The best pick depends on how you play. For ready-made scenes you can step into in seconds, start with RealChat (our product) or SpicyChat. To build your own partner, Kindroid and Chub AI give you the most control over the character. To choose the model yourself, Janitor AI with an API key or SillyTavern is where much of Reddit's roleplay crowd lands, with NovelAI as a prose-first alternative. For a slow, long-term romance, Nomi is built around one relationship that remembers.
Every pick is judged on roleplay craft, not sexting features: how well it narrates a scene, whether the character stays in voice and keeps the plot, whether the pacing builds instead of rushing, and how much you can steer it with scenarios, out-of-character notes, edits and regenerations. Platform details are as of October 2026, based on official information and recent reviews.

Story-first: start inside a ready-made scene
Choose this style if writing a character card feels like homework and you'd rather walk into a situation that already has a setting, some tension and someone on the other side of it.
1. RealChat (our product) — best for ready-made scenarios and characters

Best for: Story-first ERP with ready-made adult characters and scenarios
A browser-based AI companion platform with a catalogue of ready-made adult characters and roleplay scenarios that drop you straight into a situation. Characters keep meaningful details from the conversation, hold their personality and adapt their tone to the scenario, and you can build your own in the character creator.
- Ready-made scenarios with a written setup
- Regenerate any reply; OOC hints in parentheses
- Character creator for your own partner
- Free start before sign-up
Watch out: No model picker, API keys or local setup, so tinkerers should look elsewhere.
Pricing: Free start; 1-, 3- or 12-month plans, no auto-renewal
The appeal is zero setup. A scenario hands you the premise, the character arrives with her own look, personality and backstory, and she adapts her tone to the situation instead of greeting you like a help desk. When a reply lands flat, regenerate it. When the scene needs a nudge, a parenthetical hint such as (slow down) or (be bolder) steers her without derailing the story. She can also send AI-generated photos in the chat. Every character is an adult, and 18+ content is available to adult users only.
If you'd rather tune the engine than the scene, the bring-your-own-model picks below will suit you better.
2. SpicyChat — best for a huge library of community characters

Best for: Browsing a huge community library of adult characters
An 18+ character chat and roleplay platform run by NextDay AI, with a very large library of community-made characters, lorebooks and group chats. Paid tiers let you switch between more than a dozen models, up to its own SpicyXL and DeepSeek V3 on the top plan, and context memory grows from 4K to 16K tokens by tier.
- Huge community character library
- Lorebooks and group chats
- Model switching on paid tiers
- Memory Manager and Semantic Memory 2.0
Watch out: Quality and permissiveness vary by character; some still decline explicit scenes.
Pricing: Free tier; three paid plans
Because most characters are written by other users, the craft varies from card to card. Read the definition and the greeting before you invest an evening: a card with a concrete setting and a distinct voice usually plays better than a list of adjectives. “Uncensored” is a per-card promise, too. An August 2026 review found a test character declining explicit roleplay even on the top tier.
That top plan also adds sampling controls such as temperature, which matter more in roleplay than they sound: lower settings keep a character steadier, higher ones make the narration looser and more surprising. Skip SpicyChat if you want one consistent house style rather than a lucky dip.
Build your own: write the partner, then play
Here the character definition is the product. The better you write it, the better the narration, so these suit people who enjoy the setup as much as the scene.
3. Kindroid — best for a detailed custom partner with layered memory

Best for: Building one detailed partner who remembers a long story
A companion app built around deeply customizable, persistent characters: you write the backstory and personality, and a layered memory system keeps them consistent. It launched in 2023 as an alternative after Replika removed erotic roleplay, and reviews report adult content in private chats for adults.
- Pinned key memories
- Long-term summaries and journal memory
- Deep backstory and personality fields
- Group chats
Watch out: Not positioned as an adult-first app, and the deepest memory needs a higher tier.
The memory layers map neatly onto storytelling. Pin the facts that must never drift, such as names, how you met or a promise made in the first scene, and let the summaries carry the rest. That makes Kindroid stronger for a story that runs for weeks than for a one-night scenario. Skip it if you want a different character every evening.
4. Chub AI — best for character cards and lorebooks

Best for: Card collectors who want lorebooks and their own API key
A model-agnostic roleplay platform and character card library formed in May 2024, when Venus AI merged with CharacterHub. Cards use the V2 format, scenes can draw on lorebooks, and you can run them on Chub's hosted Mercury or Mars models or connect your own key from OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic and others.
- V2 character cards
- Lorebooks for world consistency
- Group scenes called Stages
- Bring-your-own-key support
Watch out: The free tier is limited, and with your own key the provider's rules apply.
Pricing: Limited free tier; Mercury and Mars plans
Chub sits between a library and a workshop: play community cards as they are or write your own, and let a lorebook hold the world's places, rules and side characters so the card itself stays lean. Because the cards use the V2 format, a character you build here also opens in SillyTavern. Skip it if model tiers and API keys sound like a chore.
Want to build without touching model settings at all? RealChat's character creator takes appearance, personality, backstory and communication style in plain fields, and our guide to writing a character worth talking to covers definitions and speech style step by step.
Bring your own model: choose what writes the replies
This is the Reddit end of the hobby. The app becomes a front end, and the language model behind it becomes something you choose, swap and argue about.
5. Janitor AI — best free start, with a model upgrade when you want one

Best for: Free ERP with a big bot library, plus a model of your choice
A character chat front end with a large community bot library. Replies come from its free in-house JanitorLLM (JLLM) by default, or from any model you connect by entering a proxy URL, an API key and a model ID in API Settings.
- Free default model (JLLM)
- Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint
- Large community bot library
Watch out: The free model is queued, and mainstream APIs keep their own content rules.
Pricing: Free with JLLM; external APIs billed by the provider
In Janitor's vocabulary a “proxy” is a model endpoint, not a VPN. It doesn't hide who you are; it sends your prompts to another provider, which then receives your chats. OpenRouter is a popular paid route because one key reaches many models. Skip Janitor if you want a polished app where nothing needs configuring.
6. SillyTavern — best for total control

Best for: Power users who want full control of model, prompts and lore
A free, open-source (AGPL-3.0) front end you install on your own machine; it has no model of its own. It connects to cloud APIs such as OpenAI, Claude, OpenRouter, Mistral and NovelAI, or to local backends like KoboldCpp and Ollama, and runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android.
- Character cards, personas, author's notes
- Lorebooks and World Info
- Group chats and extensions
- Cloud or fully local
Watch out: Needs setup (NodeJS 20+), and local models need a capable GPU.
Pricing: Free; you pay for the API or hardware
This is where the steering tools go deepest. An author's note can feed pacing instructions into every turn, personas tell the model who you are, and World Info entries load only when a keyword comes up, so a long campaign keeps its lore without wasting context. The official API connections guide explains what each backend does well and badly. Skip it if installing software and reading docs isn't how you want to spend a Friday night.
7. NovelAI — best for prose-first co-writing

Best for: Co-writing erotic fiction as prose rather than chat
A subscription storytelling platform from Anlatan with fiction-tuned text models, a Lorebook for world and character consistency and anime image generation. Every paid tier includes unlimited text generation; the tiers differ mainly in memory, at 8,192, 12,288 or 28,672 tokens.
- Unlimited text on all paid tiers
- Lorebook memory system
- Also works as a SillyTavern backend
Watch out: There is no permanent free plan, only a trial.
Pricing: Trial, then Tablet, Scroll or Opus
NovelAI treats an adult story as fiction you co-write rather than a chat: you write a passage, it continues, you trim and steer, and the prose keeps building. That suits people who care about sentences and pacing more than banter. Skip it if you want a character who texts you back.
Romance-led “AI love” ERP: one partner, a long story
Some people don't want a new scene every night. They want the same partner, an ongoing relationship and intimacy that grows out of it, which is what most people mean by “AI love” ERP. Memory matters more here than anywhere else.
8. Nomi — best for one relationship that keeps its history

Best for: Romance-led ERP with one partner over weeks or months
An AI companion app built around one evolving relationship, with short-, medium- and long-term memory and an editable Mind Map of what your companion knows. Reviews describe adult roleplay as permitted for 18+ users, while NSFW images are more restricted.
- Editable Mind Map
- Three layers of memory
- Group chats between your companions
Watch out: Less suited to hopping between scenarios and characters.
The editable Mind Map is the useful part for romance: when your companion gets a detail wrong, you correct the record instead of arguing about it mid-scene. Kindroid belongs in this group too if you'd rather write your partner yourself, and RealChat's girlfriend characters suit a romance that already has a story behind it, such as an office crush or a neighbor at 2 a.m. For what each app actually stores between sessions, see our ranking of chatbots by memory.

Five things to check in your first session
Good ERP reads like a scene two adults are building together; sexting is a loop of reactions. Within the first twenty or so messages you can usually tell which one a platform gives you.
- Narration. Does the character describe the room, the light and her own movements, or only react to your last line?
- Voice. After a long exchange, does she still sound like herself, or has she slid into a generic, agreeable tone?
- Pacing. Does tension build across several turns, or does every scene jump straight to the end? A slow burn needs a model that can wait.
- Continuity. Mention a detail from the opening an hour later. Does she remember the deadline, the bar's name, the promise?
- Steering. Send one out-of-character note. Does the next reply change course, and does she stop writing your actions when asked?
Why mainstream chatbots refuse or fade to black
General-purpose assistants are built for every audience at once, so romantic scenes get cut away, summarized or politely declined, and pushing harder rarely helps. OpenAI announced an adult mode for ChatGPT in late 2025, then paused it indefinitely in March 2026. Character.AI keeps a filter, and Replika's removal of erotic roleplay in early 2023 pushed many users toward apps built for it.
One trap catches a lot of people: plugging an OpenAI or Anthropic key into a front end doesn't switch off those providers' rules. Their policies still apply, and adult prompts can put the API account at risk. For scenes that stay adult, use a platform made for them or a model from a provider that allows that content.
What Reddit means by “ERP models”
In roleplay threads, the “model” is the language model writing the replies, and the app you type into is the front end. Every pick above runs on one of three setups.
| Setup | How it works | Cost | Effort | Privacy | Quality |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hosted | The platform picks and tunes the model | Free tier or subscription | None | Chats stay with the platform | Consistent, least control |
| API or proxy | A front end such as Janitor AI, Chub or SillyTavern sends prompts to a provider you choose | Pay the provider per token | Moderate: URL, key, model ID | The provider receives your chats, plus the front end if it's hosted | Widest choice; varies with model and settings |
| Local | SillyTavern talks to Ollama or KoboldCpp running a GGUF model on your computer | Free software, your hardware | High; a capable GPU helps | Nothing leaves your machine unless you expose the port | Limited by the model your hardware can run |
SillyTavern itself runs on almost anything; a strong GPU only matters when the model runs on your own machine.
As for which model is best, favorites shift month to month. Families that come up often include DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi and community fine-tunes of Llama, and older threads still mention names like MythoMax. Read leaderboards carefully: OpenRouter's roleplay collection ranks models by real weekly usage and says plainly that this measures adoption, not quality. The same model can shine on one card and fall flat on another, because the definition, the prompt and the sampling settings do as much of the work as the model.
A scene-setup toolkit that works anywhere
Tools have different names on each platform, but the craft carries over. Our explainer on how AI roleplay works covers the mechanics; here's how to apply them to an adult scene.
- Premise and setting. Where, when and what's at stake. “A hotel bar after a wedding, both of you flying home tomorrow” gives the model far more than “we meet.”
- A definition with a voice. How she talks, what she wants from this scene and what she won't do. Goals and limits make a character feel like a person rather than a mirror.
- Your persona. A line or two about who you are, so the model doesn't invent your job, your past or your feelings for you.
- A first message that leaves a door open. End on something she can answer: a question, a gesture, a choice.
- OOC notes in brackets. Pacing, tone and “don't write my actions” belong outside the fiction, in parentheses, kept to one line.
- Regenerate versus edit. Regenerate when the direction is right but the line is flat. Edit, where the platform allows it, when one wrong detail would otherwise poison the rest of the scene.
- Recaps and pinned facts. In a long scene, drop a two-sentence OOC recap every so often, and pin the facts that must never drift wherever the platform supports it.
A sample opener: Nicole and the late deadline
Here's what that looks like with Nicole, the 27-year-old project manager on your team, a character built for office romance. One bracketed line sets the pacing; the rest sets the hour, the pressure and the banter.
(OOC: slow burn, please. Write only Nicole's words and actions, never mine, and let the tension build over a few scenes.)
It's 9:40 p.m. The floor is empty except for us, and the client deck is due at eight. I set a second coffee next to her keyboard. “Peace offering. You were right about slide fourteen. Don't let it go to your head.”
Nothing in it is explicit, and nothing needs to be. It gives her a setting to describe, a reason to stay and a line to push back on. If her first reply rushes ahead, regenerate it or add a short (slower) before changing anything else.

What's free and what you pay for
Across these platforms, free tiers usually cap something that matters for roleplay: context length, model size, queue time or the number of messages. Paid tiers buy longer memory, stronger models and speed. With bring-your-own-key setups the front end may be free, but you pay the API provider per token, and a local setup costs nothing beyond the hardware you already own.
On RealChat you can chat with any catalogue character and create your first character before signing up, and that first character is free. A subscription is one payment for 1, 3 or 12 months, includes unlimited messages plus credits for photos and character generation, and never renews automatically; the details are on the pricing page. For per-evening cost math and which apps send photos, see our comparison of AI sex chat apps.
Start your first ERP scene in three steps
- Pick your style. Ready-made scene, your own character, your own model or one long romance. That alone narrows the list to two or three options.
- Open a scene or build a character. On RealChat, pick a ready-made scenario or open the character creator; elsewhere, choose a card with a concrete setting.
- Set the frame, then steer. Lead with one OOC line on pacing, write an opener that leaves a door open, and use regenerate or edit instead of arguing with the character.
