Yes, Talkie AI is free to download and chat with on Android, on iPhone (where it's now listed as Talkie Lab) and in a web browser. As of November 2026, video ads and usage limits pay for the free tier. The Talkie+ subscription and in-app gems are optional extras, billed separately.

Talkie's own site describes the app as completely free to use, with premium features optional. That holds up if you read “free” as “free, with interruptions.” So the useful question isn't whether Talkie costs money. It's which parts of it do.

Free vs Talkie+ at a glance

Talkie sells two subscription tiers on top of the free app. Standard is the ad-free, uncapped plan. Pro builds on Standard with more memory and editing room. Gems, the in-app currency, sit outside both.

Limits and plan contents change over time and differ by store. The paywall inside your app is the final word for your account.

Is Talkie still free in 2026?

Yes. The core deal hasn't changed: chatting with characters costs nothing, and paid features are add-ons. What has changed is where and how you get the app.

  • iPhone. Talkie vanished from Apple's US App Store in December 2024, and the company cited unspecified technical reasons. It's back on iPhone under a new name, Talkie Lab – AI Playground, from the same developer, SUBSUP PTE. LTD.
  • A pause in 2026. Talkie Lab stopped taking new downloads in late August 2026 and returned on September 14. Its App Store listing has been live and getting regular updates since.
  • Android. Google Play pulled the app in late April 2026 and reinstated it in mid-May. The web version kept working throughout.
  • Pricing. A higher Talkie+ Pro tier now sits above the long-running Standard plan.

None of these changes moved chat behind a paywall.

What actually costs money on Talkie

There are three separate spends, and paying for one doesn't cover the others.

  1. The Talkie+ subscription. Standard or Pro, monthly or yearly. It buys ad-free, unlimited chat and the extras in the table above. It doesn't include gems.
  2. Gem packs. Gems are Talkie's in-app currency, sold as one-off purchases. Subscribers get a 10% bonus when they buy gems, not a free supply.
  3. What you spend gems on. Mainly card pulls: collectible character cards drawn at random, gacha-style.

You don't need gems or cards to talk to anyone. So does Talkie cost money? Only if you want chat without ads and caps (the subscription) or collectibles and extras (gems). If you want both, the bills stack.

How much is Talkie+?

Prices on Talkie Lab's US App Store listing, checked November 2026:

PurchaseUS App Store priceWhat it covers
Talkie+ Standard, 1 month$9.99No ads, unlimited chat, faster replies, extra chat inspirations
Talkie+ Standard, 1 year$49.99The same, billed once a year
Talkie+ Pro, 1 month$24.99Standard plus chat memory, more regenerations and expanded editing limits
Gem packs$1.99–$19.99Currency for card pulls and other extras

Google Play, the website and stores in other countries can show different numbers. Local currency, store pricing and introductory deals all move the figure. Some regions also see a weekly plan, and Talkie adjusts prices over time.

Watch the renewal price, not the headline offer. Discounted first years renew at the full rate. On the web, for example, Standard has been sold at $9.99 a month or as a reduced first year that renews at $95.99 a year.

Standard or Pro?

Standard is the plan for most people, because it removes the two things free users complain about: ads and the cap. Pro is only worth the higher price if long, continuous storylines are why you use Talkie and you keep running into what characters forget or how much you can edit.

One search pitfall: if “Talkie pricing” turns up per-user business plans, you've found a different product. Talkie.ai is a phone receptionist for healthcare practices, and TalkieHQ is a team voice tool. Neither has anything to do with the character app.

Is there a Talkie free trial?

Not in the classic seven-days-free sense. The introductory offer you'll usually see on the paywall is a discounted first year. If your store does show a trial, it works like every app-store trial: it turns into a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel before it ends.

Talkie+ renews on its own at the end of each period, at full price. Deleting the app doesn't stop it. Cancel wherever you paid:

  • iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Talkie Lab → Cancel Subscription. Do it at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
  • Android: Google Play Store → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Talkie → Cancel subscription.
  • Web: use the subscription or billing settings of your Talkie account on the site. Web, App Store and Google Play billing are separate, so canceling in one doesn't touch the others.

After you cancel, you normally keep Talkie+ until the period you paid for runs out.

Is chat on Talkie unlimited for free users?

No, not in practice, and that includes iPhone. Some of Talkie's landing pages use the word “unlimited,” but free chat is metered. Once your allowance runs out, you either watch a video ad to keep going or stop for now. Truly unlimited chat is a Talkie+ Standard feature.

Figures quoted online for the free cap disagree. Talkie changes them, and they differ by region and account. The limit message in your own app is the only number that applies to you.

Why Talkie shows so many ads, and how to see fewer

Ads are what keep the free tier free. The Google Play listing declares both ads and in-app purchases. Users commonly describe video ads of roughly 30 to 50 seconds that appear when a time limit runs out, and about every 10 minutes in long sessions.

The legitimate ways to cut them down:

  • Talkie+ Standard. This is the only way to remove ads completely. Try one month before you commit to a year.
  • Take the ad when it buys time. When the app offers more chat time for a video, watching it is the cheapest way to keep a good conversation going.
  • Shorter, focused sessions. Ads pile up in marathon chats. A few shorter sessions put the breaks at natural pauses.
  • The browser version. It runs on desktop and mobile with no download and no account needed to start. That makes it easy to compare how your sessions feel outside the app.
  • A different app. If the ad rhythm is the dealbreaker, no setting will fix it. Chai users hit a similar wall with a message meter, and our guide to leaving Chai, sorted by the reason you're leaving walks through that decision.

The “no ads paywall fix” and modded APKs

Searching for a Talkie “no ads paywall fix” leads to modded APKs and “premium unlocked” builds, and they don't deliver. Talkie's servers tie unlimited chat, memory and the rest of Talkie+ to your account, so a patched app can't switch them on. What a patched app can do is get your account banned, and your characters and chat history go with it. It can also install whatever else the uploader bundled into the file. The only fixes that work are the ones above.

Are Talkie AI codes real?

Talkie doesn't run a public redeem-code program for gems or Talkie+. Pages and repositories promising “free gem codes” or a free subscription, including ones posted on GitHub, are bait for clicks, surveys or your login. The discounts that do exist need no code. The yearly price applies automatically at checkout, and introductory offers show up on the paywall by themselves. If a “code” asks for your Talkie password or card details, close the tab.

Where to download Talkie for free

  • iPhone: search the App Store for Talkie Lab – AI Playground and check that the developer is SUBSUP PTE. LTD. In the US, the original “Talkie” listing is gone, so old links to it won't install anything.
  • Android: Talkie is back on Google Play after its spring 2026 removal, labeled as containing ads and in-app purchases.
  • Web: talkie-ai.com works in desktop and mobile browsers. You don't need to download anything or create an account to start chatting.

In the UK, search the App Store for both “Talkie” and “Talkie Lab,” and install only a listing whose developer is SUBSUP PTE. LTD. That check keeps you away from lookalike apps. If neither search turns up that developer, open talkie-ai.com in your browser instead. The same steps work in other countries, where Talkie's listings have come and gone more than once.

Getting the most out of free Talkie

  • Create an account if you're staying. If you plan to keep a character long-term, sign up so your chats aren't tied to a single guest session.
  • Don't buy gems to chat. Chatting isn't gem-gated. Gems go on cards and extras, so spend them only on things you actually want to collect.
  • Bookmark the web version. It kept working through the Google Play removal, which makes it your backup when the app misbehaves.
  • Price-check before subscribing. Compare your store with the website. If a weekly plan appears, multiply it by four and compare it with the monthly price.
  • Set a renewal reminder. Put the renewal date in your calendar the day you subscribe, especially on a discounted first year.

Worth paying, or time to switch?

Pay for Talkie+ Standard if you like Talkie's characters and the ads are the only thing in your way. One month will tell you more than any review. Choose Pro only if memory is your real frustration. If the meter itself is the problem, or you want something Talkie doesn't do, compare before you spend. Our comparison of companion apps on iPhone, Android and web shows how the paid tiers differ.

RealChat, our product, works differently. It runs in the browser and is built around a catalogue of ready-made female characters and roleplay scenarios that drop you into a starting situation. Characters remember meaningful details from the conversation and can send AI-generated photos in the chat. You can message any catalogue character a few times before signing up, and your first created character is free. Plans are a single payment for 1, 3 or 12 months. They include unlimited messages plus credits for photos and character generation, and they don't renew automatically.

If you'd rather not pay anyone yet, our roundup of free AI roleplay games and character chats sorts the no-cost options by play style.
